Thanksgiving kicks off the start of many holiday activities with friends and family. For Sean and me, it’s deciding on who’s family we will be spending which holiday with. This year he’s coming with me to Houston for Thanksgiving! I am excited about it because last time he came to Houston we didn’t have much time to explore the city. This time around we have 4 full days for me to show him around and do some fun activities.
I wanted to write a little post on meeting family since this is somewhat new to me. I will talk about what to bring and even what to wear! This time of year could mean that you are possibly going to see your significant other’s family for the first time. Or maybe this is the tenth time and you’d want to get more ideas to switch things up. In this post, I am going to cover both! What to wear and answering the question of what to bring for the parents when you meet them the first time.
What To Wear
I am not going to dive too deep into this, but I did create a fun style video on some outfit inspiration you can watch below. There are a variety of looks from super casual, which is what I am wearing showing up to my parent’s house. Also including looks that are a bit more dressy-casual. It all depends on what your plans are for turkey day:)
What To Bring
This was more of a challenge for me, but I think I managed this well, and I have a few suggestions to share. First off don’t put so much pressure on this because showing up with something, even if it’s small, is better than showing up to their parent’s house empty-handed. Here is my list below
Sprinkles cupcakes– They can create cute designs
Bake a pie– Here’s my foolproof Apple and Pear Spiced pie recipe the I make every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Charcuterie Board– If you live near Whole Food or central market, they can create these packages for you. You need to call a few days in advance. But if you’re in a pinch, Whole foods has a cheese board pre-made and ready to go. All you need to do as buy the meats separate and they have those pre-packaged as well.
Candles– the White Barn collection at Bath and Body Works…you’re welcome
An assortment of nuts/meats/cheeses– This is something that you’re going to have to order ahead unless it is the Holidays. These types of gifts are everywhere during this time of year.
Sees Candies- They have a variety of gift assortments and I have seen them at local malls
Bring a nice bottle of wine/champagne/liqueur of choice- of course, this is a go-to option but not everyone drinks. I would say your limit should be at least $25 because bringing a $5 bottle of wine is not cute.
Okay, I think I covered everything! Hopefully, you get an idea or two of how to show up and show out at the parent’s house. At the end of the day don’t put so much pressure on yourself, wear the cute top, and be sure to show up with a gift. You’ll be fine and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
