A Guide to Summer Workwear

A-guide-to-summer-workwear-5

I love waking up in the morning, sipping on some tea as I start my day, and get ready for work. I take a quick picture of my outfit because a love what I put together that day. By the time I get to work, most of the time I feel like a frizzy, glistening hot mess. And it’s only 8:06 am… So how do you still put in some effort in what you wear to work during these hot and humid months?!

Don’t worry! I have covered this topic before in an earlier post, but I wanted to give this post a facelift. Also, incorporate what I am already wearing during the summer months this year. As much as I would want to wear flowy maxi dresses all the time, I do need to switch it up and keep it interesting at work. The areas that I focus on is colors and patterns, the type of fabric, and the cut of the fabric. These are going to be game changers in your wardrobe and how you shop for functional pieces. Here are a few things you can do to show up to work looking cute during the summer.

Colors and Patterns

Yes, I am going to suggest lighter colors and patterns when it comes to updating your workwear. Not only do these colors reflect light (especially if you are working outdoors often), it also creates a happy feeling psychologically. I totally understand if adding in color or patterns is a stretch, but maybe try one or two tops at first. You will grow to like it, I promise! If you do not like adding color or pattern at all, then the next section is for you.

Fabric of Choice

If you like to stick with darker colors because it is your dress code at work or just your preference with your wardrobe, fabrics will be the way to go. I love a jersey knit fabric, cotton, I am very into linen, and silk blends. If I could get a chic patterned top or dress that is work appropriate and is a jersey knit, I am sold! This is also crucial for a woman like me that goes to the gym during your lunch. Trying to cool down, change your clothes, and make it back to work in time is already a hassle. Wearing pieces to work that are breathable once you change makes all the difference.

The Cut of The Fabric

Shift dress, straight leg jeans, and flowy blouses. The common theme here is the style and cut of these pieces. It’s about finding pieces that flow away from the body but still gives you a shape. I recently purchased these wide leg jeans and I cannot wait to show you and style them! If you are styling separates, then would pick either the top or the bottom to wear the flowy piece of clothing.

For example, if I were the wide leg jeans then I would wear a more fitted blouse. It creates comfort without looking like your clothes are swallowing you whole. Shift dresses and T-shirt dresses are a huge go-to for me. In my job, I can wear more casual pieces. Even a t-shirt dress I could make it dressier with a pair of mules with a heel or pumps.

Let me know if this gave you some direction with how to tackle workwear this summer. If there is another topic you would like me to write about, leave a comment below as well. 🙂
