5 Ways to Update Your Wardrobe

Hello and welcome back to The Visual Aspect! If you have following along recently you might have noticed that I took a short break from posting. I got a little carried away in anticipation of SXSW and getting prepped for the week. That post all about SXSW will be up later this week! For those of you who are new to my blog, I share tips and tricks on how to build an essential staple wardrobe through boho-chic style. A handful of the previous posts have been geared towards building your wardrobe from scratch.

This post will be focused on how to update your wardrobe to be more transitional over each season. As the seasons change, what pieces can you add that will update your wardrobe and be transitional. I love versatile pieces and having those in your closet can make life so much easier. I will identify styles that are transitional trough every season and a couple of shopping tips.

The White Tee-Short sleeve or Long sleeve

I know I have talked about this often in the past but having a white tee that you can use to layer is so essential. It is beneficial to have a short sleeve and/or long sleeve option because you can do a lot with both styles. The preference up to your own discretion but bottom line you need to get your hands on a white tee and add it in your closet.

Shopping Tip 1: Shop offseason

This is by far one of my favorite things to do! Yes, shopping of course but shopping offseason. It might seem like a no brainer to shop offseason to get the best prices but how many of us do that…I feel like not a lot. My favorite season would be to shop for is fall and winter, and if you shop those after Christmas sale you can get some great deals on some nice coats for the following winter. Shop offseason for those staple items (coats, swimwear, shoes, handbags, etc.) and you will be all set once that season comes back around.

Medium Wash Jeans

This is another staple I refer to a lot because it is just that good! I say medium wash over dark jeans because I find it more versatile overall seasons. It is a great neutral to match with your spring pieces and into the winter with the heavy coats. When it comes to fit that is completely up to you. I like to keep it to a super skinny to a skinny leg opening so that I can wear boots as well.  I have found myself recently gravitate more towards a wider leg but those are the one-off styles you can purchase once you get your basics down.

Shopping Tip 2: Use lipstick as an accessory

This might be a little random, but I have been experimenting a little more with my makeup lately. By no means does this make me a beauty guru and I am far from that! However, I like to use my lipstick choice as another accessory to my outfit. This may not be news to others, but I have recently been getting dressed and considering what my makeup is going to be that day. If I do a bold lip, then I might tone it down elsewhere. Or from a different perspective, if you feel like your outfit needs a little bit more wow factor, do a bold lip and see where that gets you. It has been working for me.

Crossbody bags

Finally, let’s talk about crossbody bags. The short compact bags that help me not carry my Mary Poppins bag everywhere I go. I know as it gets warmer I just want fewer things touching my body. Some days I want everything to fit in a small bag because I’m going to a concert, for example. The flexibility that comes with this style of bag is awesome, and there are so many types out there for you to choose from. I have a couple the I like shown below.

I wanted to give you a quick refresher on how your wardrobe can really work for you all year round. You don’t have to be burdened each season by buying new clothes each time the leaves turn. If you shop smart and get the most versatile pieces you can have the best style all year round.
